Dr. Sean T. McDonnell DDS

 Dr. Sean MacDonnell

Education and Background:

Dr. McDonnell is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. He joined Dr. Barnes’ practice in July of 2007 after completing a three-year tour of duty in the United States Navy. While in the Navy, Dr. McDonnell served for a year on a Marine Corps base in Parris Island South Carolina and for two years at a large naval hospital in Bethesda Maryland. He was the head of the Pediatric Dental Clinic in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Dentistry Department at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda Maryland. While at Parris Island, he served as the Head of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at the Marine Corps Air Station.

Dr. McDonnell completed his pediatric dental residency in 2004 at the University of Florida, where he served as Chief Resident. In 2002, he received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. Dr. McDonnell received his bachelor of Science Degree in Biochemistry from Georgetown University in Washington DC.

Dr. McDonnell grew up in Washington DC and Orlando FL. He is married and has four beautiful children: Claire, Colin, Thomas and Patrick. His wife, Judy, is a general dentist. They met, got married, and had their first child while in dental school at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond VA and went on to serve in the Navy together until July of 2007.

Awards and Notable Achievements:

  • For his dedicated service, Dr. McDonnell received the Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal for the care he provided to the Marines and their children stationed at Parris Island

  • He also received the Navy Achievement Medal for care provided to the children and special-needs family members of all the branches of the U.S. Military, civilian government officials, and dignitaries of foreign governments stationed in Washington DC

  • While in dental school, Dr. McDonnell was the President of his class, a member of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon dental honor society, and a member of the Psi Omega dental fraternity

  • He was also the pediatric dentistry class representative and the recipient of the American Society of Pediatric Dentistry’s award for Excellence in Pediatric Dentistry

  • Dr. McDonnell competed on Georgetown University’s swim team and represented Georgetown University twice at the Big East Championships

Kathy L. Parsons DDS

 Dr. Kathy L. Parsons

Education and Background:

Dr. Kathy Parsons grew up in Winter Park, FL. Prior to dental school, she attended the University of Florida, where she graduated with a B.S. degree in Business Administration and Marketing. 

Dr. Parsons received her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree (DDS) from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. As a dental student, she was selected to train in conscious sedation and operating room procedures, and to treat patients with extensive medical conditions. She was an active member in the community and volunteered for many dental van clinics and health fairs. Dr. Parsons especially enjoyed providing dental treatment at local elementary schools.

Upon graduation, Dr. Parsons was excited to return home to Florida, where she completed her residency in Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Florida and Shands Children’s Hospital. During her residency, she received extensive training in the prevention of dental disease, treating infants to adolescents, patients with special needs, oral conscious sedation and general anesthesia. She is board certified and a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, Florida Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, Florida Dental Association, and American Dental Association.

Dr. Parsons is excited to share her passion and knowledge of oral health care to families. She strives to develop trusting relationships and accommodate the unique needs of each child to make every dental visit a comfortable experience. As a pediatric dentist, she believes she has the ability to shape patients’ lifetime attitudes about dental care and oral health through positive visits they have in our office. Dr. Parsons, her husband Chad, and their two children are thrilled to live in Ormond Beach.

Awards and Notable Achievements:

  • She mentored high school students at dental camps who were interested in health care professions

  • Dr. Parsons volunteered for the Head Start Program and educating expectant mothers on prenatal oral health care

  • She presented her research on the success of ferric sulfate pulpotomies on primary molars at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry

  • Dr. Parsons provides infant oral health presentations to expectant mothers at Florida Hospital.

  • She is a courtesy faculty member for the UF Pediatric Dentistry Department and teaches the dental students clinical skills and is a mock examiner for the pediatric dental residents to help prepare them for their board exam.

Fun Facts:

  • Dr. Parsons is a a die-hard Florida Gator fan

  • She loves spending time with her family and two dogs

  • She enjoys cooking and traveling

  • She takes pleasure in all of the wonderful outdoor activities on or near the water

Dr. Ryan W. Donley, DMD

Education and Background:

Dr. Donley, “Dr. D”, was born and raised in Ludington, MI on the shores of Lake Michigan. He attended Alma College where he ran cross country and track and received his Bachelors of Science degree in Biology. 

He moved to Tucson, AZ in 1997 to attend the University of Arizona where he received a master’s degree in Physiological Sciences. While attending the University of Arizona he also coached track and cross country at Sahuaro High School and Tucson High. Dr. Donley also taught freshman algebra, for two years, at these high schools.

Dr. Donley attended Nova Southeastern University College of Dental Medicine in Ft Lauderdale, FL and received his Doctorate in Dental Medicine (DMD) in 2007. He moved to Vail, Arizona in 2007 to be near his sister and her family as well as several of his friends. He started Vail Family Dentistry in July of 2009 after a brief period in corporate dentistry.

In 2012, Dr. Donley was fortunate enough to be able to return to school to complete a Pediatric Dentistry residency program at the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL. He returned to Vail, AZ in 2014 as a Pediatric Dentist and practiced there for three more years before selling Vail Family Dentistry. Dr. Donley is a board certified pediatric dentist and a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Dental Association. Dr. Donley has always loved living in Florida and is excited about his return.

  • He has participated in the “Give Kids a Smile” Program, which provides dental care for underserved communities

  • Dr. Donley has volunteered his time to the Florida Health Fair, as well as Cinega High school track and field

  • He has received The American Academy of Periodontology’s 2007 Dental Student Award

Fun Facts:

  • Dr. Donley loves the water!

  • He has two labrador retrievers who love to play catch and hike outdoors

  • Dr. Donley still enjoys running (although he is much more of a jogger these days!)

  • He is an avid sports fan and shares his loyalties among several teams, including the Florida Gators, Arizona Wildcats, and Michigan Wolverines.


Dr. Daniel P. Barnes DDS

Education and Background:

Dr. Barnes received his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree (DDS) from Loyola University Dental School Chicago in 1983. He practiced General Dentistry in Chicago and Fort Lauderdale for 4 years before returning to the University of Florida Shands Hospital to complete his residency in Pediatric Dentistry in 1989. He is a Board Certified Pediatric Dentist.Dr. Barnes has been practicing Pediatric Dentistry in the Daytona Beach area since 1989.

Awards and Notable Achievements:

  • He has served as President of both the Florida Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the Florida Society of Dentistry for Children

  • In 1998, he received the Florida Distinguished Service Award from Project Dentist Care for his work in the indigent migrant worker community

  • He received the Presidents Award from the Volusia County Dental Association for his work co-founding the San Jose’ Mission in Pierson Florida in 1997

  • In 1998, the Arch Diocese of Orlando recognized him for his work in the indigent migrant community

  • He has given numerous continuing education courses to physician and dental groups throughout the country
